Eight Albums to Hear in August 2018

Publish date: 2024-06-14

This summer has been a massive one for music. We’ve truly been spoiled with album after album from longtime favourites and emerging stars in different genres taking over the charts. With the end of the summer coming closer than ever, we decided to share some of the albums we’ve been waiting months for, and ones dropping soon.

In order of release dates, here are eight albums to hear in August 2018!

8. Astroworld

Artist: Travis Scott

Date: August 3rd

Travis Scott’s third, highly-anticipated album came with so many questions and expectations. The star-studded project featured artists from John Mayer to Drake, and we weren’t quite sure what to expect. What sounds were we going to hear? What were we going to hear about? Since its release, it has received mixed reviews from fans and critics but we’d say it’s definitely worth a listen.

7. Swimming

Artist: Mac Miller

Date: August 3rd

The second rap album on this day came from none other than Mac Miller. Swimming is his fifth studio album, and we were excited to hear what he had to say two years after his last album, The Divine Feminine. Mac delivers thirteen smooth, funky tracks and we’re definitely going to have this one on replay.

6. Love and Loathing

Artist: With Confidence

Date: August 10th

Having just wrapped up being on the road, With Confidence is back with their second album under Hopeless Records, Love and Loathing . The band released energetic singles “That Something” and “Jaded” leading up to the album release and played both newer tracks and throwbacks to audiences across North America on the final Vans Warped Tour this summer.

5. The Great Depression

Artist: As It Is

Date: August 10th

It’s almost as if these album releases have been taking turns per week by genre – another pop-punk record, As It Is’ The Great Depression, was also released on August 10th. The band teased the album theme on their Instagram before the big reveal, and lead vocalist Patty Walters served some serious emo 2000’s vibes with his new, jet black hair. Singles such as  “The Wounded World” and “Boys Don’t Cry” set the tone for the album and were also performed live on this year’s Vans Warped Tour.

4. Queen

Artist: Nicki Minaj

Date: August 10th

We’ve been hearing Nicki Minaj on the airwaves with hit after hit for the past decade, and she’s not showing any signs of changing that. Dropping her fourth studio album featuring Ariana Grande, Eminem and Lil Wayne this month a week early, Queen is a record that packs a few punches.

3. Sweetener

Artist: Ariana Grande

Date: August 17th

Ariana Grande’s fourth studio album is coming our way, and we’re not quite sure we’re ready. So far, we’ve heard “No Tears Left To Cry”, “The Light is Coming” featuring Nicki Minaj, and most recently, “God Is A Woman”. With this impressive set of bops, we can only imagine what the rest of the album will sound like.

2. LOVE YOURSELF: Answer

Artist: BTS

Date: August 24th

Find yourself a band that does it all. BTS has been taking the world by storm over the past few years, captivating and taking over North American audiences with their charm, vocals, and insane dance moves. Or, you know, all three at the same time during every performance they put on. They’ve been the highlight of countless televised segments, whether they be talk shows or award shows. We are beyond excited to hear what LOVE YOURSELF: Answer will bring!

1. Bloom

Artist: Troye Sivan

Date: August 31st

We’re wrapping up the summer in the best way possible – with new music from Troye Sivan on August 31st. He is set to release his sophomore album at the end of the month and from what we’ve heard so far, it’s going to be a solid one. Bloom features “Dance to This”, an upbeat collab with Ariana Grande and we’re definitely anticipating some more tracks that’ll get us on our feet.
