Interestingly enough, in high school, Tika had only been interested in cheerleading and only became involved with any kind of acting as an adult. She studied Communications in Marymount Manhattan College and also worked as a waitress and a model. Her work as a model lead to her being noticed as an exceptionally beautiful woman and being chosen as a host on the TV show “Best Friend’s Date” (in 2004). A year later, Tika managed to land a role as a regular in the daytime soap opera “One Life to Live” in which she played the character of Layla Williamson for six years. For this role, Tika has been nominated for the NAACP Image Award in the category of “Outstanding Actress in a Daytime Drama Series” (in 2008). After she finished working in “One Life to Live”, Tika made her feature film debut with a role in the drama film “Stomp the Yard: Homecoming” (in 2010). In the same year, she also appeared in the action thriller film “Salt”.
Possibly one of the most significant roles in Tika’s acting career so far was her getting cast as Raina Thorpe in the popular teen drama television series “Gossip Girl” (in 2011). A year after that, Tika was cast as one of the main characters in the musical film “Sparkle”. Currently, she is a part of the cast in the primetime television soap opera “The Haves and the Have Nots” which premiered in 2013 and so far has been fairly successful.
It has been announced that in 2016 she will appear in a biopic film “Southside With You”, a movie depicting a love story between the current American president Barack Obama and his wife Michelle. Tika has been chosen to play the leading role of young Michelle Obama. It is easily predictable that this film will gain a lot of public attention, which means that it will probably further increase Tika’s net worth and popularity as an actress.
In her personal life, Tika Sumpter was married to the American actor Hosea Chanchez. Tika is a very private person and therefore little else is known about what is happening in her personal life.
