Tupac Shakur: Karim Benzema's idol whose death Mike Tyson feels responsible for
At the Ballon d'Or gala, striker Karim Benzema paid tribute to his idol, rapper Tupac Shakur, who was shot dead in Las Vegas on September 13, 1996.
Benzema wore a suit almost identical to the one Tupac Shakur wore to the 1996 American Music Awards (AMA's).
The outfit has two special details: a kind of bow tie knotted around his neck and thin horn-rimmed glasses that catch the eye above all else.
Otherwise, the outfit is simple, black blazer, white shirt and black pants to enjoy a very exciting gala at the Chatelet Theater in Paris.
Who was Tupac and how was he killed?
On September 13, 1996, Tupac, one of the most famous rappers in history (he has sold more than 75 million records) and a symbol for part of the African-American youth in the United States, was killed in a shootout.
A few hours before, Tupac attended a fight of his good friend Mike Tyson against Bruce Seldon, and on his way out he was the victim of a shooting provoked by the deadly war between the rappers of the East Coast and those of the West Coast.
The singer did not want to miss the premiere of a song he had composed especially for the presentation of his friend's fight. Tyson beat Seldon and invited Tupac to a big party to celebrate the fight... a party that Tupac never attended.
Mike Tyson feels "extremely guilty" about Tupac Shakur's death
"I feel extremely guilty about his death, because I think if he hadn't come to my fight he never would have been shot," Tyson told the American press, breaking his silence on the murder of Tupac.
In 2010 Tyson explained in the report 'One Night in Vegas: Tyson & Tupac' that his strong friendship with Tupac was cemented in the prison past of both: "When I went to prison in 1992 (convicted of rape) every day he called me, sent me a message or at least tried".
